Types of Non Destructive Testing services

Non Destructive Testing is a huge group of analysis techniques in the field of science and technology. It is aimed to analyze the properties and components of material and system without causing any damage. The usage of non-destructive testing methods completely depends on the range of industries in which it is getting used. Different methods provided by NDT services can cover a wide range of examinations from huge civil engineering and vehicle construction arrangements to small elements, welds, casting, etc. Different techniques are used for different methods mentioned below:

Visual Testing (VT):

Visual testing is an ocular and traditional method of inspecting. It requires nothing other than a trained sight or magnifying mirrors to look over internal and external surfaces to assess for discrepancies. Although the visual inspection is basic, it still can catch many flaws such as external cracks. Thus, this quality makes it basic but powerful.

Ultrasonic inspection:

It is a non-destructive test method that employs sound waves to view the internal side of a component. To perform this, scrutiny is moved over the surface which emits ultrasonic waves and the reflections can be traced from the screen. It inspects both flat and voluminous flaws. For easier observation, a phased array method can also be used.

Radiographic and Digital Radiographic inspection:

This method allows viewing the inside of the component utilizing x-rays and gamma rays. It is widely used in the petrochemical industry and health centers. Digital radiography uses a digital detector for displaying radiographic images on the computer screen. These images are often of better quality than conventional radiographic images when considering the high-quality internal view.

Liquid Penetrant Inspection:

This method is used for suspecting and breaking flaws such as cracks or irregularities. It is sometimes also known as Dye Penetrant Testing. It is performed with ferrous and non-ferrous materials whether it is plastic, ceramic, or metal. In this color or contraster (fluorescent penetrant) is applied to a clean surface, the penetrant goes into the smallest cracks and outshows the imperfections.
